Windows and radiators and stairs...oh my!

Well, today is the day it became official.  This house is upside down!

The staircase to the 2nd floor has been completely removed.  100 years ago the stairs were only meant to serve as a means to get into the attic so they were narrow and steep.  If I am going to finish out the 2nd floor we needed a more level (and walkable) pitch on the staircase.  Out with the old and in with the new.  I found 2 master carpenters that have already removed the entire staircase.  I kinda like the new stairs here.  They functional, minimalist, easy to maintain and no sweeping necessary.

Onto the next big projects of the day.  The HVAC crew is here disconnecting a bunch of the radiators (temporarily) so that we can rebuild the enclosed porch on the back of the house and generally get rid of heat sources that sit smack dab in the middle of a room!

And finally, the windows arrived.  AHHH!  2 days to finish the install and the house will have a fresh new look and much better energy efficiency all around.  I am saving the old wood windows to repurpose into something fabulous.

Check back tomorrow to see the house with it's sparkly new windows and the roughed-in staircase!
